I had the privilege of interviewing the Imagination Movers recently. They were very friendly! The Imagination Movers is a children's band made up of four men - Rich Collins, Scott Durbin, Dave Poche and Scott (Smitty) Smith. Collins was a journalist before the formation of the Imagination Movers. He is from Maryland; after graduating from The Catholic University of America, he moved to New Orleans. He now has a wife and five kids. He says his favorite part of the job is"the excitement of creating new songs." Durbin received his undergraduate degree in religious studies from the University of New Orleans. He taught for ten years at Norco Elementary and Isidore Newman School, which gave him good experience with children for being part of the band. He was the one who came up with the idea for starting the Imagination Movers. Poche was an architect, and designed various buildings in New Orleans. He is originally from Baton Rouge. He played guitar on the show as well as live. Poche, Collins, and Durbin all lost their homes in Hurricane Katrina, but did not leave their hometown. The Movers now play live on a couple of weekends a month. Durbin usually schedules their shows. They try to release new albums every two years. Their newest album is "10-4". One of the songs, 'Butterfly Wings' featured Lisa Loeb. Durbin says "As far as songs we play, Jump Up is one of the audiences favs so it’s fun knowing we’ll be shooting confetti off at a certain point in the song and that always makes people smile. Rolling 'also' is enjoyable cause we do our infamous flying toilet paper.......Children inspired us........We’ve always thought of ourselves as more than just Movers. We’re dads, husbands, friends too. So we try to balance all of that so we don’t miss special moments in our families' lives."
